A highway is a common road to get from one place to the next. So is Highway One – sometimes. Mostly in those times and at those places where it is coterminous with US 101.
At other times and in other places, Highway One is more a state of mind or being, precipitously perched on the edge of the continent, inclining ever west, nudging up against the Pacific. It might weave its way through a grove of coastal redwoods, snuggle up against sand dunes here, cut through row crops there.
This is our Highway One, the wayside path where things slow down and resonate more with the earth than with man. Occasionally, Highway One doubles as Main Street.
It is at its unique and personal best when it is off the freeway, alone, apart, blending into and communing with the native features of the Golden State. HighwayOne.US is a shared meditation on all things Highway One.
