So is Highway One\u00a0\u2013 sometimes. Mostly in those times and at those places where it is coterminous with US\u00a0101.<\/p>\n<p>At other times and in other places, Highway One is more a state of mind or being, precipitously perched on the edge of the continent, inclining\u00a0ever west, nudging up against the Pacific. It might weave\u00a0its way through a grove of coastal redwoods, snuggle up against sand dunes here, cut through row crops there.<\/p>\n<p>This is our Highway One, the wayside path where things slow down and resonate\u00a0more with the earth than with man.\u00a0Occasionally, Highway One doubles\u00a0as Main Street.<\/p>\n<p>It is at its unique and personal best when it is off the freeway, alone, apart, blending into and communing with the native features of the Golden State.
